Studio Mala Maña
Project Background
Independent brand collective Studio Mala Maña approached Pink Dog Studio to design their first retail space within a shopping centre, a big move that marked an exciting step in their growth. The challenge was to create a space that reflected their bold identity while staying flexible enough to adapt to a constantly evolving range of products.
Client Brief
Design a store that could showcase a rotating mix of fashion, art, and design pieces. The space needed to be visually striking, functional, and modular, with materials and finishes that matched the brand’s creative spirit.

Process
The space had to feel like Studio Mala Maña from the second you walked in, while staying practical for a rotating mix of fashion, art and design.
Modularity was key. We developed a flexible floor plan anchored by powder-coated steel structures: rails, mesh panels, counters and shelving that could be reconfigured on the fly. Every element was designed for visual punch and ease of use.
We used Studio Mala Maña’s signature red throughout the store, the bold red colour helped unify the space and ensured the store really stood out in the shopping centre environment. Raw unpainted concrete walls ensured the products and brand colour took centre stage, while clean, purposeful lighting was used to elevate the experience, spotlighting each product like a work of art.

Results
The striking red palette made the space instantly recognisable within the shopping centre, drawing foot traffic and turning heads. The modular layout gave the team the flexibility to refresh their displays regularly, keeping the store dynamic and aligned with their ever-changing range.
Beyond aesthetics, the space now works hard for the brand, showcasing products with gallery-level attention while staying practical for daily retail operations. It’s not just a shop; it’s a gallery and a powerful step forward in Studio Mala Maña’s journey from collective to retail force.
